This work is both empathic and an experimental medium painting of my favorite queen, Marie Antoinette. With this image, I imagined how it felt the moment she realized it was all over for her and her family. She was all dressed-up but had nowhere to go. She seemed to have it all, but in the end, she had nothing. Life became chaos: she lost her balance as flames of despair consumed her.
This media is experimental for me; I painted it on a pet training liner instead of canvas. The material is ultra-absorbent and contains a top layer of woven fiber that wicks to send moisture down below it. I loved trying to control the fabric inks through the top layer, as the liners absorbed and created bleeds while the pad held the colors nicely.
